Commander Lola (Hellssina Clan Short Story's Book 3)

She stood there dressed in black and armed to the teeth. Blades hung from her waist, shoulders, arms, and legs. She was death walking. Red hair the color of blood fell down the back of her spine. She sighed as she looked over the battlefield, blood dripping from her blades. She was tired of the blood, the killing, the screams of the wounded. She never wanted this, a young girl from the palace. The king was at war and it had to be done.

“Lola”

“Yes Sargent”

“Report to the Commanders tent at once he has a job for you”

In the king's army, you had a place and that place was where the king required it.

Lola walked over the dead bodies and walked the fields of blood. She walked to the Commanders tent and the guards crossed there spears baring her way. She stood and waited her eyes forward. She already had the nickname of Red Death. The guards looked at her and smiled.

“One moment Red Death”

“Commander she is here”

“Let her in”

The Guards removed their spears and she walked into the Commanders tent and she stood in front of the table and waited. He was looking over the maps of the King and he then pointed to a blank part of the map.

"You are to go here at once"

Lola looked at the map memorizing the landmarks.

“For what reason Commander?”

“Find out what is there”

“The war?”

The Commander looked at Lola and smiled. He was a big man for a human. He was a killer in the king's army and one that had a black heart and had sent many of the king's army to there deaths. The king needed results to make his borders safe from the other Kings and Queens so he turned a blind eye.

"For you, it is over. You will leave at once"

“One day commander your death will come by my hands”

“Guards”

As the guards came in Lola turned and smiled.

“See to it that Lola leaves for her journey”

The guards bowed there heads and opened the doors of the tent. Lola walked out but stopped in the doorway.

"When I return you will die, Commander"

The Commander laughed and returned to his maps and Lola walked out and towards her horse and mounted. This King they were fighting was a young Lycian named Hells. He was deadly and brutal. The rumors said he was a vampire and a Lycian and that his people were free to come and go as they pleased. Lola did not believe it to be true but she thought she would go there and have a look anyway. This new King interested her and going to have a closer look would not hurt before her mission. Her King and his commanders were brutal savages to anyone they thought were weak. The Commander did as he pleased to his prisoners and even the people of the King. Only this time he was losing to the New King. Lola had been trained since she was a young girl to obey and kill. She remembered that day, a day she killed her first man. She was ten at the time and her mother was a whore for the king's men when they had come smashing into the door and went to grab her and her mother. They were dragged from their beds, dragged through the streets to onlookers and thrown in front of the king who looked down at them while another man was being whipped to death. Lola knew what was coming even at that young age as the King made regular displays of human sacrifice to make sure his minions did as they were told. People were chosen at random and the King did not blink an eye to who it was. Why did people stay you may ask. This is what the young Lola was thinking right now. The King looked down at them and smiled.

“Take them out to the square and burn them alive”

“At once my King”

For some unknown reason, Lola jumped at the guard and pulled his dagger from his belt and thrust it into his chest time and time again until she was pulled from his bloodied body. The King smiled and looked at the young Lola still gripping the dagger in her hand and looking at the King with hatred.

“Burn her mother but take her to the guards and train her after she has been given a good thrashing.”

“At once my King”

With that, she was pulled kicking and screaming from her mother and thrown into a cell and beaten till she passed out. The next day she heard her mothers screams as she was burned at the stake. Tears flowed from her eyes and she wiped them away as she vowed to kill the King and all his men.

“Good vow little one”

Lola turned and scrambled back into the darkness of the cell and a voice chuckled.

“No need to be scared little one”

“Who are you?”

“Me, I am a witch or so they say”

“Why are you here”

“Same as you little one”

“Lola, my name is Lola”

"Ah, the one that walks in blood and death. I had hoped to see you before I was to die"

“What do you mean?”

A hand moved from the darkness in chains

“You little one will bring peace to this land but at great cost to yourself. A white page surrounded by a sea of red will bring you the peace you want”

“What rubbish do you speak of”

“Let me see you before I die Princess Lola”

“I am no Princess”

“Time grows short and I am tired Princess”

Lola got up and walked into the light and stood looking into the darkness. A hand lifted up and the chains rattled and then dropped back into the darkness and a sigh left the body. A short time after the guards came and opened the cell door and walked to were the witch lay. One of them looked and smiled at Lola and then walked into the darkness and dragged the old witch from the shadows.

“She's dead”

"The King won't be pleased"

"Let's take her body with us"

“What about her?”

The guard looked at Lola and smiled

“She stays here”

That was the day when Lola held her tears back and just smiled at the guards. That was the day she became Red Death but she was far too young to know it. Lola walked to her horse and mounted and rode towards the war camps front lines and left on her mission. She was still young but she had found out what some of the witch had said to her in that jail cell to be truth so many years ago. She had found the white page in a sea of red. As she rode on her horse thinking of her past she smiled and when she was out of sight of the camp she took a detour to this new Kings lands.
